Martha started running in college to blow off steam but didn’t enter her first 5K until 2003. Instead of gradually increasing the distance, she signed up for and completed two marathons in 2004, both under 5 hours. She credits the invention of the iPod as motivating her to train these long distances. Though she has been sticking with the half marathon distance and shorter since 2006, she is back to training for a full in November 2017 and hopes to qualify for Boston. One of her favorite aspects of running is visiting new cities and experiencing unusual sights, sounds, and smells while putting in the miles. She looks forward to racing in different regions of the US and abroad.
