Kathy Chavez

On the day Kathy gave birth to her twins she weighed 265 pounds, three weeks later her husband gave moved to Atlanta to start a new job.  After two years of taking care 3 kids under the age of 4 in a new city she decided to train for the Peachtree Road Race to celebrate her 40th birthday.  It was brutal trying to get into shape for it and never thought she would be able to finish. On the fourth of July 2010 she completed all 6.28 miles in an hour and eleven minutes and was hooked and determined to beat that time and break an hour.  Since then she has not stopped running, because she loves the challenge and keeps moving up distances looking for new challenges.

Kathy is a teacher and coach in her daily life and brings those skills to her running.  She trained to run 2 half marathons raising money for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and it gave her the chance to coach people that had never run before.  She also trained with the Atlanta Track Club for her first marathon where she ran and helped other people make it across the finish line. Kathy has completed 20 half marathons and 4 full marathons as well as numerous 5ks and 10ks.  Her best time for a Peachtree Road Race was 53:44 and now weighs 110 pounds less than the day she had her twins thanks to running.
