Gary took a non-traditional route to becoming a runner, having played football in high school and rugby in college running was something he dreaded instead of embraced. Having only run one 5k prior to 2010, he signed up for a half marathon in May 2011 to really do something outside of his comfort zone, and at mile 12 of the race he swore it would be his last race. Once he crossed the finish line, however, he caught the running bug. Since then he has completed one marathon, two 15k’s, eleven half marathons, and countless 5 and 10k’s. He loves the positive nature of the running community across the country and is now a pace coach for the Marathoners In Training team in Columbus where he tries to help motivate and educate other runners.
