Several years ago Denise started walking to lose 50 pounds. A year later life happened and she found that she needed to run in order to get in her steps. At 55 she signed up for her first 5k (which happened to be a Warrior Dash} dressed up like Xena. And so the addiction began.
Denise ran (limped) her first half marathon in November of 2013. She came in last, found out she ran it with a broken hip, and last, but not least, the word FINISHER was spelled wrong on the medal. The only way to go was up. Right?
Denise began pacing a few years ago when she was invited to pace one of the Chicago-area half marathons. Since then she has paced at least a couple dozen half marathons. She enjoys meeting new people and helping them achieve their goal, whether it’s a PR or just to get across the finish line. Her favorite running “reward” food is frozen chocolate covered banana slices. Her favorite running mantra is: “One day I will no longer be able to do this. Today is not that day.”
