Dan Pena

Dan is a 48-year old, happily married father of 2 energetic boys, Alex (13) and Chase (10). He started running 9 years ago and has completed over 130 races ranging from 5K to a marathon. His best marathon is a 3:16 and he is aiming to smash that time at a race in April 2020. He originally started running to just keep in shape and it snowballed from there.

He recently completed his 1st 100 Mile trail race at the Javelina Hundred in Phoenix, AZ with a time of 20:20 and earning the prestigious sub 24hr belt buckle. His main trail race goals are Western States in California and UTMB in Europe.

Living in Phoenix next to the Desert Vista trailhead, he is an avid trail runner and will usually save road races only for special occasions. His Ragnar McDowell 2019 trail team recently took 1st place overall out of 370 teams (the last two years we took 3rd and 2nd). He is a member of the AZ Trailleggers that tend to hang out in the North Phoenix area running trails such as Apache Wash, Deem Hill & Desert Vista.

When Dan is not getting lost on a trail, he is either leading Cub Scout Pack 619, watching a movie (graduated with film degree) or cheering on his Arizona Wildcats. As a die-hard Wildcats alum, he graduated from the University of Arizona in 1994 with a film degree and completed some graduate film work as well at Chapman University in Orange, California.
