Dan Pena

Dan is a 46-year old, happily married father of 2 energetic boys, Alex (11) and Chase (8). He started running 8 years ago and has completed over 100 races ranging from 5K to a marathon. He proudly has finished every race and is too stubborn to ever have a DNF (Did not Finish) on his record. He originally started running to just keep in shape and it kind of snowballed from there.

He recently completed the Revel Mount Lemmon Marathon in November 2017 with a time of 3:35. He came short of his Boston BQ qualifying 3:20 goal due to running an ultra-trail race the weekend prior and his body simply ran out of a gas – a hard lesson learned.  He aims to make good on his goal in April 2018 with another attempt.

Living in Phoenix next to the Desert Vista trailhead, he has recently become an avid trail runner and will usually save road races only for special occasions. His Ragnar McDowell 2017 trail team recently took 3rd place overall out of 370 teams. He is a member of the AZ Trailleggers that tend to hang out in the North Phoenix area running trails such as Apache Wash, Deem Hill & Desert Vista.

When Dan is not out getting lost on a trail, he is one of the leaders for Pack 619, a very active Cub Scout group. A die-hard Wildcats alum, he graduated from the University of Arizona in 1994 with a film degree and completed some graduate film work as well at Chapman University in Orange, California.
