Clinton is high school mathematics teacher who is married and has one daughter. In his late twenties, he was coaching track and football in conjunction with his teaching duties. In an effort to become a more effective coach for his distance runners, Clinton began running. At first it was just a few miles each week and some 5k races, but over time he became a runner.
After a few years of running, Clinton gave up coaching football to coach the cross-country team. Over the next 14 years his teams would qualify for 12 consecutive state finals, winning one state championship and finishing runners-up in a second final. All the while he was improving and running more miles to encourage and challenge his athletes.
While he no longer coaches so he has more family time, he is still an avid runner. He has completed over 20 marathons since 2006, including seven Boston Marathons. He began pacing because he wanted the opportunity to give something back to the running community that has given him so much over the years.
