Ben began running in high school, but it didn’t stick right away. After quitting the Track team twice, he finally found his love for running his junior year of high school and went on to set his 1 Mile PR of 4:50 his senior year. He was also a goalkeeper for the soccer team, which had him itching to run by the time track season started. He eventually went on to play soccer at Ferrum College and put running on hold.
After college and being away from running for a few years, he began running again and entered several 5ks and 10ks for fun. Eventually the desire to get faster took over and he began training seriously in 2012 with the goal of someday running the Boston Marathon and running a Sub-3 marathon. He accomplished those goals at the 2013 Cape Cod Marathon with a 2:59:40 and then ran the 2014 Boston Marathon the following April.
Outside of just running, Ben has taken up triathlons and has gone as far as completing the 2016 Ironman Maryland. He resides in Cambridge, MD and coaches for the TriCycle and Run Training Group in St. Michaels, MD when he is not training.
